Your Heart

,Have you ever noticed the things that your heart misses? The triggers are often strange and numbered. A certain song on the radio, the smell of a summer day, or the way someone says your name. Believe it or not, smell is the most powerful trigger. Freshly baked cookies can make you remember your grandmother’s house. The way the rain falls, the way the smell of the ocean reminds you of days spent by the beach. But back to topic… your heart, metaphorically, of course, it never skips a beat. It remembers, when you could swear that you’ve forgotten. It recalls when you’ve said you can’t, or when you wished you didn’t. It’s your greatest ally and your worst enemy. Because it rarely seems to bow out gracefully, or quit; it’s a sympathetic fallen angel. It overlooks the broken parts in favor of the whole—picking the bright memories, messing with your unconscious as you dream. And an elephant’s got nothing on your heart. But like all goodJudas’s, it will probably betray you in a second, Give you away completely, Toss you blinding into the volcano, like so many sacrifices before.
